Russells to kick off Manchester’s £105m Oxygen tower
Russells will start work next month on a major three-tower residential scheme in Manchester 10 years after the site first secured planning approval.
Piling works at the Oxygen development, which includes three towers of 31, 15 and nine storeys in height with 360 luxury apartments, are due to start on 22 May almost a decade after original proposals were submitted.
Planning permission was originally granted in 2007 for an £82m, 35-storey residential tower on the site designed by architects Austin-Smith:Lord, but the project was abandoned after developer Time and Tide Construction entered administration in 2008.
The site has remained undeveloped until it was purchased by Property Alliance Group in 2015, with fresh plans for the tower by 5Plus Architects approved by Manchester City Council in March the following year.
The final proposals include two additional penthouses as well as minor changes to the structural design, which will now see the cladding on the upper six storeys match that of the floors below.
