Job Description

The role:

A great opportunity has arisen for a Head of Technical Support to join this world leading manufacturing business. The Head of Technical Support will lead and set the strategy for the technical function, agreeing and monitoring the budget for the function and maintaining a focus on margin and efficiencies.

Other duties will be but not limited to:

· Working alongside other Heads of Functions who, as a Senior Management team, will be responsible and accountable for establishing business KPI’s and focussing on overall site profitability and return on capital employed

· Defining and agreeing the strategy for the technical function in line with the wider business strategy

· Set and agree the budget in-line with business strategy, ensuring that costs and efficiencies are managed

· Lead and direct the development of new grades of PTFE and ETFE, sometimes in conjunction with Japan

· Manage IP strategy and budget, to meet Business and customer needs

· Provide technical expertise for project definition and execution in relation to new processes or products, supporting operations to ensure product and process quality

· Provide leadership to and manage the resources of the technical function, setting priorities and communicating clear objectives whilst ensuring that the Technical Service function and customers are fully supported in alignment with the strategic vision of the Company

· Manage significant capital expenditure projects and SR&M projects ensuring the best use of resources to meet Business needs, setting standards of technical excellence, timely on budget delivery, safety performance and environmental impact, with minimal interference to production

· Lead, build and develop the technical team capability, encourage creativity amongst the team, provide performance evaluation data ensuring the activities are regularly and accurately reported with clear Customer focus

· Manage team performance and expectations through regular meetings and through personal reviews linked to overall Business performance and KPI’s

· Ensure integration of the team into Business Operations to improve team effectiveness

· Initiate and manage technological improvements within the Business to improve SHE, compliance, Product Certification, output, efficiency, and product quality and consistency

· Responsible for ensuring that new products are brought to the market successfully by providing technical liaison to customers at the stage of initial product evaluation and acceptance trials

Experience & Skills Required

Experience, skills and qualifications required:

· PHD Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

· TFE, PTFE and ETFE production processes/ Fluoropolymer industry experience, in particular product development and trials

· HSE and COMAH regulations

· Excellent IT skills, able to analyse spreadsheets, write internal and customer reports

· Analysis and manipulation of test results and data

· Excellent communication skills, able to present data in a clear and easy to understand format

· Strong persuading and Influencing skills to promote ideas and strategic direction

· Able to manage and coordinate a diverse team

· Utilisation of laboratory equipment

· Able to plan, organise and prioritise workload and agree appropriate deadlines within the team and with cross functional teams

· Able to adapt to changing priorities
